Yet another stainless question

by Chuck Meyer
(Savannah Georgia)

Ive already picked up a lot of good information from your site
but i still have two dilemmas... one is a paste flux adequate for shielding the back of a 300 series repair ??

or should shield gas also
be applied. and hf or dc power be used?

--------------------------------------------

Chuck,

Argon gas shielding is the way to go on stainless.
solar flux paste is a mess.

DC electrode negative is the ticket.

you dont absolutely need hf high frequency start, but it helps.

high freq is great to have , but if you already have a tig machine with lift arc or scratch start, you can probably get by. unless its really thin stainless sheet.

Return to tig forum.
