Whenever I read something that says "This is the proper torch angle for TIG welding" I shake my head.
The reason is because I dont think there is a proper torch angle for TIG welding.
The proper angle is whatever works for the situation.
A good example of this is the contrast of tig welding aluminum vs walking the cup on carbon steel.
The best torch angle for each is wildly different.
A steeper angle works great for walking the cup on steel but that same steep angle would ball up the filler wire on aluminum.
If you are TIG welding a simple fillet weld where there are no obstacles requiring a certain torch angle, you will probably benefit from using a 15 degree torch angle.
Just know you can also get good results if you deviate.
Just like with torch angles depending on the situation, how you hold a tig torch depends on the type weld, position, and other factors.
There is no proper way to hold a TIG torch just like there is no proper torch angle.
But if you are a beginner, this video might give you some guidance on how to hold a tig torch.
