how do i know if im welding mig with the right polarity?

-------------------------------------------------

bare wire mig always uses dcep
thats electrode positive. the positive pole marked with a plus sign is hooked to the torch.

for flux core, you have to look on the box because they are not all alike.

generally, the self shielding flux core wires run on DCEN and gas shielded flux core often called dual shield wire typically uses DCEP
