HEY JODY! NICE SITE MAN, ALOT OF GOOD INFO. I HAVE RAN INTO A PROBLEM PUTTING A TIG ROOT PASS IN 6IN SCH 40 CARBON STEEL PIPE. IM RUNNING ABT 105 AMPS WITH STRAIGHT ARGON WITH A DRY TIG RIG. TUNGSTEN PEN POINT SHARP. USING 3/32 FILLER TIG ROD. I HAVE TRIED A 3/32 AND 1/8 GAP WITH A FEATHER EADGE. THE APPEARS ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKS GOOD, BUT THE INSIDE LOOKS LIKE I TOOK A GRINDER AN CUT A GROOVE IN MIDDLE OF, NOT PENETRATING. IM USING THE FORWARD AN BACK MOTION. ANY IDEAS? THANKS JODY IF YOU CAN HELP ANY.

some things to look at....
make sure the bevel is right...it should be around 35-37 degrees give or take...too tight a bevel is like too big a land or too tight a gap.
make sure your electrode is extended enough to hold a pretty tight arc length.
also pay attention to angle of electrode...too much angle is bad.
good luck,
jody
