High Speed Pulse tig welding settings for a stiffer arc

Pulse settings for TIG brazing

Pulse TIG welding settings are pretty straight forward but there is practically an endless combination of settings that could be used.

The only real way to tell what pulse tig welding settings will work best for a particular situation is to experiment and document.

Write down what works for what so you wont have to start over on every new welding job.

Low speed pulse tig settings

Practical Applications for Low-Speed Pulse TIG Settings

Low-speed pulse TIG welding settings (typically between 0.5–2 PPS) can be useful for projects that require enhanced control over the weld puddle and more defined bead ripples. Here are some practical applications:

Thin Stainless Steel or Aluminum Welding.

Low-speed pulse settings can help with better control over heat input, preventing excessive heat buildup or burn thru.

Cosmetic Welds with a Stacked Coin Appearance.

Lower pulse frequencies create a rhythmic "stacked coin" look on the weld bead, which is often desirable for cosmetic applications in visible joints, such as those on motorcycles, bicycles, and custom automotive parts.

Beginners Training Wheels

Low-speed pulse can also be a training tool for beginners and can serve as sort of a metronome for timing addition of filler metal when learn to tig weld aluminum.

High Speed Pulse TIG welding Settings

Practical Applications for High-Speed Pulse TIG Settings

High-speed pulse TIG welding (typically 33+ PPS, sometimes up to 500 PPS) creates a stiffer and more constricted arc and helps produce a consistent, narrow bead

Thin Metal Welding (Especially Stainless Steel)High-speed pulse settings can help for thin materials because they produce a highly focused, stable arc that limits heat spread, reducing the risk of warping or burn-through. This is especially useful when welding thin stainless steel in food-grade or sanitary applications.

Mold Repair and tool and die repair

High speed pulse settings of over 100pps can be helpful when repairing injection molds and for tool and die repair where a focussed arc is needed.

Welding Speed in Production Settings

High-speed pulsing can increase welding travel speed.

In fact one of the reasons Miller came up with the Dynasty 700 welding inverters with a high pulse rate was for production tube mills where travel speed is very fast.
