Porosity on 2205 Duplex Stainless Steel TIG Welds

by Craig

A company called and left a message wanting some info. on why they are getting porosity in their TIG welds using 2205 Duplex Stainless. Any thoughts before I go there? I have not worked with this Duplex so any advice would be appreciated. I also do not know what their Welding Procedure states.

I would look at the cleaning process to make sure they are not using abrasives like scotchbrite or tootsie roll cartridges that can leave residues.

also , the purity and dew point of the shielding gas.

gas flow from the torch and flow rate of the purge gas.(often times, the purge gas will be too high and disrupt the torch gas causing porosity)
