This first video shows 1/4" thickness overhead MIG welding settings using a primeweld mts200
If you want Overhead MIG Welding Settings you came to the right page.
Here are 2 excellent videos showing not only Overhead MIG Welding Settings, but also show techniques and weld testing to prove out the settings.
The video below shows overhead mig welding settings on 11ga steel using 115 volt power
It is important to understand that overhead MIG settings should be almost the same as for flat and horizontal mig welding.
You should not turn the settings down for overhead.
Let me explain....
2 of the main issues with overhead mig welding settings are...
The stickout is the distance of unmelted wire sticking out between the contact tip and the arc.
IT needs to be shorter than you think. Like around 1/2" or less.
Gun angle matters too but as long as you dont get carried away with gun angle, it is pretty forgiving.
You can even aim for a dead nuts straight in 90 degree angle.
Either a slight push or pull angle works fine.
As long as you keep a short stickout and decent gun angle, you can weld just as hot as you do in flat or horizontal
