whats a good way to tig an 1/8" root gap overhead on 1/4" plate?
---------------------------------------------------
For tig welding a root pass in pipe or plate I like to use a 30-37 degree bevel, tight 1/8" gap, 1/8" rod.
you can also use a 3/32 gap and 3/32 rod.
lay the wire in the gap, using a tight arc with very little electrode angle, create puddle and move ahead about 1/8" and then back about 1/16" and pause.
easy to say, harder to do. but watch this

I think you will get what I mean.
