When mig welding stainless, 308 and/or 316, is color of any consequence? I know how important color is when tig welding stainless, but I haven't been able to achieve any color other than gray when mig welding stainless. I've tried 98/2 argon/oxy and the tri mix.

color is overrated.
gray is normal for mig welding stainless but you can get a bit of color if you tweak the settings just right.
color is mostly a matter of chill rate vs how quickly the shielding gas leaves the hot weld area.
mig welding is so much faster than tig , that it almost always discolors to gray.
