MIg Weld, CO2 Gas.

Can CO2 Gas be used on it's own without Argon added to weld ordinary steel?
Would it make a poor weld?

----------------------------

Co2 is a very popular gas for mig welding steel.
the only real drawback is for welding very thin metal like auto body panels....its a bit hot for that.
Some say it spatters more, but I have found if parameters are right, it is a very smooth arc that penetrates very well.

the weld itself will be just as high a quality weld as with mixed gas.

its usually a good deal cheaper than argon mixes too.

Some of the newer inverter gmaw machines are designed specifically to be used with straight co2. ( millermatic passport )
