Making pretty tack welds

I'm pretty new to welding and i want to know how to make pretty tack welds when the two metals have too large of a gap between them to just make a small puddle to temporarily join them. Thanks

tack a little hotter than you would weld, and in short bursts.

auto dark helmet so you can tell exactly where your wire is pointing.
