i have to do a test on 50mm plate with a 3to5 mm gap root and fill with fluxcore. is this possible as i have never done a fluxcore root before.

---------------------------------------------------

it is possible , though not very common practice.

i have not done it so I cant be very helpful here.

testing NEW
by: T

It depends on t4he position you have to weld you test. Is it flat? Or a 2Grove test? It can be easily done, I learned with 3/32 flux innershield. If it's up on it's side(horizontal groove)just point your stinger straight in and keep it pointed straight in, and if you watch your puddle close you can make all 3 plates in you test coupon weld together. Then start at the bottom and build it up.

1/4 inch pipe 1/4 inch root NEW
by: Anonymous

I welded 1/4 inch thk 304 stainless pipe with 308 Flux core. 045 dia wire. Root opening was 1/4 inch. Ceramic backing. 26.5v 380ipm. Pushing the puddle slightly. After it was rooted I peeked inside and the root was clean. After it was rooted I turned the machine up to 28.5v and down to 300ipm. Put one fill pass and a 2 pass cover on it.
