Help with mig weld flat test

I am taking a mig test today at 2:00. Two 3/8 beveled plates 22.5 on both sides to make a 45 on top of a backing plate with a flat weld. Root pass, hot pass and cover pass. My cover pass has had some cracks. I'm holding it on both sides for around a second to fill it up. Any pointers? It's a bend test

I know this is too late, but the best advise for a flat test is to stay on the leading edge of the puddle.

the biggest problem with welding tests done in flat position is cold lap from the puddle running ahead of the arc and that prevents the arc from penetrating.

use as close to a 90 deg torch gun angle as possible, use hot settings , and stay on the leading edge.
