If you are still using the standard TIG cups and hardware that came with your machine or TIG torch, I can just about guarantee you will get better results if you upgrade to a weldmonger® stubby gas lens kit.
Weldmonger® Gas Lens kits include high quality hardware.
If fact, our Weldmonger® Stubby Gas Lens kit is unique in that we include high quality furick gas lenses with an O Ring groove that allows use of clear cups and other furick cups.
The reason we include these premium furick gas lenses is so that you can use all the other furick cups without needing to buy adapter kits.
The Weldmonger® Gas Lens kit version 2.0 is the Absolute Best Stubby gas lens kit available.
Our TIG Pro Kit has a cup for nearly every weld situation that might come along.
If you are like me and you routinely TIG weld lots of different types of metals. You need different cup sizes and different types of TIG mounting hardware.
The great thing about a Gas lens kit is that you dont need to know a bunch of part numbers and wonder if the parts will fit your TIG torch.
All you need do is know what style of TIG torch you have and then order the gas lens kit for your torch.
And we can help you with that.
The images below will help you identify your torch so that you can be 100% certain all the parts will work with your tig torch.
A Gas lens collet body diffuses shielding gas a lot better than a standard collet body.
When you start needing to extend your tungsten more than around 7/16" with a standard collet body, you start losing shielding.
On stainless steel, this makes for a sluggish puddle that is hard to control.
Take the same size gas lens with the same flow rate of argon and same tungsten extension and you can see a big difference in the way the puddle flows as well as the discoloration.
For best results on 4130 chromoly, stainless steels, nickel alloys like inconel and hastelloy, and cobalt alloys, a gas lens kit will improve your results dramatically.
For certain alloys like titanium a gas lens with large cup like a furick mk14 or BBW is a must have.
Now dont get me wrong, there are still a few jobs like aluminum 1/8" and thinner where a standard collet body with a #5 or #6 cup does a great job.
But for me, I usually prefer a gas lens on those jobs too so that I can extend the tungsten a bit further....because it helps me when making welding videos.
