chillring

by Todd
(michigan)

could you explain the chillring test?

---------------

a chill ring usually refers to a backing ring that amounts to a rolled piece of sheet usually about 1/8" thick.

it is used instead of an open root for fitting and welding pipe.

its actually a little easier than an open butt root.

usually a 7018 rod is used for the root and all other passes.
and usually its given in the 6g or 45 degree position aka arkansas bellhole
