I have been a welder and fabricator for several years for a company in Arkansas. I'm wanting to take AWS certification test and I would like to know exactly what I should expect for a 3G 1" plate test. What are the procedures and any advice would be grateful
--------------------------------------------------
typically you might expect a 45 deg included angle and a 1/4" gap with a 1/4" thick backing strap.
sometimes one piece will be beveled 45 deg with the other piece not beveled.
every test supervisor has certain requirements so its impossible to predict everything.
clean mill scale back at least 1/4" from weld.
no arc strikes outside the weld groove.
usually a 1/8" rod is used for root and about 120 amps works.
